Over the past couple weeks may of you have come to know Stefano Ceiri as a thought provoking, eager and kind EVOKE agent. While following the torrents of posts on blogs like WHATS GOING ON?? & Agents losing their sparks, I noticed that Stefano mentioned that the recent pan
americana fiasco has caused him to have doubts about EVOKE. It made me sad that Stefano might leave so I wrote him a message.
I decided to post the message because I wrote it from the heart and I think that it might help some others.
no need to power vote, this is just to help heal.
for some context this is in response to Stefano's post
I understand your sentiment. You felt as I believe many of us did that this; game, experiment, social endeavor, whatever you want to call
it--was pure, a digital utopia.
However the situation with Pan brought to light a number of things that
seemed alien to the original spirit of the game. The intervention of the
admin (regardless of how justified) seems to have tainted the original
purity. The spell was broken--and with that doubt of EVOKE came a doubt
I saddens me that pan caused such a rift to be torn, and the the
administrators took the path of hard intervention--but that's how it
happened. This system of gaming is very new, and they still haven't
figured out a lot of the kinks; in my opinion a conflict like this was
inevitable. It is now up to us as EVOKE agents to determine how we will
let this effect the course of the game.
I think It is important to realize how little has actually changed; The
reasons that we all signed up are the same. There are still THOUSANDS of
talented and creative agents who are eager to get involved. We can
still change the world. Two things are certain:
What was lost can never be regained.
I just wanted to reach out and let you know how I felt. It may be
selfish, but I hope that you do come back to EVOKE.
