Training the Barbarian - and Storing the Energy

Ok, so the challenge is to power something you use every day or have used every day.

My idea stems from an earlier wish I had that fitness would go beyond the Wii Fit and its dorky remote wand thing, and in recollecting Star Wars Galaxies MMORPG where my character was ENDLESSly running across the deserts of Tatooine and I was always looking at her artificially scuplted behind.

I can see people groaning a bit at this, but what if the video game (which incidentally hooked to a treadmill that created electrical power) actually required you to get fit, to play it? Obviously it would be adjusted for initial fitness level, since we all aren't barbarian princesses right now, but dang, if I had to endlessly run (or bike) to get to each online town, you can be sure I'd have a sculpted behind just like my avatar. It seems to me to be a waste if the endless time folks spend videogaming can't be used - not just for social good - but for physical good.

Steelcase already makes these treadmills for working and walking at the same time

- what if they could be hooked up to power the laptop?

There have been significant advances in the idea of movement creating power - see nanogenerator article here - http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/02/090213115020.htm - what if walking around (as part of the video game) powered up the video game itself?

I like this idea- it'd limit my MMO time and force me to get some exercise. I might even let myself play them again!

Granted, I'm not sure if most MMOs can run on foot generated power alone, but it would limit the time playing and the energy consumed playing the game, improve health. Solid win.

the Pedal a Watt or Potenco's products sound a bit like this. Also the sustainable gym concept. The cool thing is, normal electric motors could be used for something like this. Usually they are used by adding electricity to create movement, but here you are talking about movement to creat electricity.

lol@sculpted behind like your avatar
i do not see how i can play a game when i am working out
do you mean work out first and thenplay?
or go through a test first and then only be allowed to play?
i agree we can link both playing and working out but wouldnt a simulation and real life intervention game be more suited for that?

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
