Create “transparent” technologies, ones that are easily understood by the users, and promote local innovation. - Amy Smith
As an educational game and simulation designer I was struck by this quote. How can I make the artifacts I design transparent to the end user? I think the core rule of promoting further innovation is a one of the key concepts I could include in future designs. I think it has been in some of the games I have put into play but I could make it more of a top priority in future endeavors.
Part of promoting innovation in game design is to include elements of ownership. How can the end user take control of the product and make it their own? Possibilities may be built into the design, but also could be done in ways the designer cannot predict. I think the internet and multi-media spaces online can be a rich part of this, especially as a way of sharing ideas, but are not the only way. These might be inaccessible to many people as well so other mediums of exchange need to be thought about.
