Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Trevor Bayliss who saw the need and invented the solution.

So many to learn from, difficult to choose.

Mohammed Yunnus ? Started Grameen bank to help the poorest get loans at low or no interest in order to raise chances to get out of poverty.
Amarty Sen ? Economist who showed that poor food distribution causes famine and great loss of life.
Tim Berners Lee ? Created the world wide web shows how joining up knowledge from different bodies and provokes solutions.

So these are giant heros to learn from.

But I think I am going to choose Trevor Bayliss, the inventor of the wind up radio. Because he saw a need and acted on it with his wonderful tinkering mind.

"Trevor picked up on the world 'need'. Need is the catalyst for an inventor's 'raison d'être' and
Trevor rose to the occasion. In his workshop at home he experimented
with a hand brace, an electric motor and a small radio. He found that
the brace turning a the motor would act as a generator that would supply
sufficient electricity to power the radio. The addition of a clockwork
mechanism
meant that a
spring could be wound up and that as the spring unwound the radio would
play. His first working prototype ran for 14 minutes on a two minute
wind. Trevor had invented a clockwork (windup) radio!
"
He did wind up lights too.

Yeah, and the invention of solar panels led to even better ways to get energy without buying batteries. My neighbor who is an architect went to the Gambia (I think that was the country but I can't remember exactly) to design an orphanage building for free. While she was there, she was talking to a woman who worked at the orphanage and found out that she used a cell phone to make calls, but it was 50 miles to the nearest town with an outlet to charge it. Luckily, there are now solar-powered phone chargers and my neighbor gave her hers for free! I bet it would have taken a lot longer to think of that invention if it hadn't been for Trevor Baylis' wind-up radio!

(See, there was a point to that super long comment)

Trevor - yes indeed. He actually did what I had been thinking about for years. The more I think about things, the more I realise I can actually do these things myself. I once had a good idea for an electronic thingy at 11pm, and had it working by 12that night - yes, one hour. I told Sony about it, 6 months later they introduced the revolutionary HiFi VHS... my idea... I did that... I can prove nothing.

Trevor did his thing and managed to sell it without either selling himself out or being sold down the river. I don't have THAT skill at all.

Wow Andrew Gribat, I am imagining how not having to do that journey or not having a phone until its done. It must change things for the woman who worked at the orphanage, if I ever go anywhere like that I am going to take a wh*** bagful of solar chargers.
Trevor that is amazing that you thought of that. I am still using them too. Thank you for many hours of good films.

PDE, this is an amazing synergy of thought. In my blog about one laptop per child, the crank that generates power for the laptop comes from freeplay energy source. I have a friend who works for Freeplay, and I notice that the Freeplay technology is related to Trevor Baylis's invention.
There is an unending number of applications of this technology from use in developing countries where reliable energy sources are few, to use during power outages all over the world, to camping trips and remote or rescue operations.
Great Choice!

Thanks, I didn't know this, how things do and can join up is really amazing.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
