Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Two years ago i had the privilege to live and work for 6 months in the city of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. From my experience there, i believe that Ushahidi could be used in the event that one of the hurricanes that pass every year through the Caribbean Sea will hit the city, like it happened in 1979 with hurricane David.

When this happens, large parts of the city will be flooded (as it is very close to the shore) and the main problem will be access to clean water.
Ushahidi could be used then to map the streets that are completely flooded as well as places where clean and drinkable water is still available.

There will also be a high risk of diseases due to the dirty water and the significant number of rats that inhabit the city. For this situation, people could also collaborate to indicate the places where medicine can be found.
