Ushahidi at work in modern suburbia
Almost as opposite as possible from the origins of Ushahidi is my current suburb in Ontario: Middle-class, very ethnically diverse neighbourhood, likely close to 100% high-speed internet, 2-car families, etc...
All the same, with the relatively recent pandemic of H1N1, there was definitely a need for Ushahidi. In its absence, the citizenry had to rely on "traditional" means of communication: Local and national news on TV, radio, and newspapers, none of which have any hope of providing the first-order information that Ushahidi promises access to. There were misunderstandings of times and locations for vaccinations, leading to situations such as families waiting for hours in bad weather only to be told that they did not meet the criteria for vaccinations and were turned away.
In a case like this, Ushahidi could be used to report symptoms, give clinic locations, times, live updates on queue times, as well as other pertinent information.
There is no equal to the capabilities of a system like Ushahidi, which makes it invaluable to all societies, regardless of their socio-economic status. The next step, though, must be education: people must be made aware of this application, and reminded of it during the times of need, which requires recognition by local governments and community leaders.

The meal
It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
