Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I feel the communication, especially the brainstorming people do on here as a collaborative effort, could very much improve if there were places I would call Inns or Guild Houses.

Right now blog posts and responses to them are the way people communicate here. If a group of people connected by a certain project on Evoke could create or get a Guild House where they could talk online in real time, the development and implementation of ideas into the real world would become much faster and efficient.
Groups now are searching for these possibilities on Twitter, Facebook and the likes. This will work of course but and the possibilities are already there, but it takes them OUT OF Evoke and I think that is a pity.

Inns and Guild Houses would also add to the sense that EVOKE, in itself, is a WORLD, which would appeal to many more online game players and maybe pull them in.

Time for a few 3D game developers to join the effort?

Floatstone-- I replied on your discussion topic, but I'll add to it here: yes, we definitely need better ways to communicate on specific projects. So far I haven't been able to round up a local 'team' like I'd hoped, so meeting in person is not going to work - for me, at least. I don't know how flexible the Ning platform is or how easy it would be to set up guild houses -- or Inns or Coffee houses -- whatever you want to call them, where a group of us could get together, either with a particular theme or purpose -- or just to get to know one-another and brainstorm on whatever was on our minds.

If this isn't in the cards for Evoke in its current form, I'd be willing to set up a board, or try and install a chat program on one of my websites. I also have a social networking program which I bought some time ago, but I don't know what it's like or how appropriate it would be for this purpose. (I've never installed a program before and haven't been able to get it to work.)

For those who have yahoo! messenger installed on their computers, we could also set up a yahoo group. I'm part of several such groups on other topics and they work well for most people-- the only problem is the program takes up quite a bit of space on the computer -- and in each of our groups there were always a few people who just couldn't get it to run for some reason.

Anyway, here's hoping the Evoke developers will make these outside possibilities unnecessary and manage to install some kind of group pages for us.

Interesting idea this one. I'd be willing to collaborate to set up one of such groups here in Madrid, Spain, if there's enough people to support it and try to make this idea possible. It could be an example for others too.

I had a similar idea some time ago, but just couldn't get it started in any possible way; but now that this is here, it's the perfect moment to get this thing on-and-going.

So, if anyone is interested, just contact me and we'll start getting some ideas together.

Also, it would be nice if the EVOKE team would enable a chat function to the website with several 'default' channels, giving users the possibility to create sub-channels so they can discuss at ease and begin projects together.

To Willy Druyts: I think creating such a group in skype might be a little bit hard to manage, as skype bugs quite easily when there's many messages together and there's also the problem of a possible massive call, which may outright crash it.

Back to the original poster: keep spreading the word, we might still get this up and going.

Sorry, I re-read the post and think I mis-understood. You were talking about an online community and me about a physical one. Both ideas could still be taken ahead though.

Yes Willy,

Skype could certainly work. But I agree with what Sarah saiys here and in other posts, that it would be better if this communication takes place Inside Evoke. The game is so much geared towards action in the outside world that the 'game feeling' can rapidly evaoprate. I think one of the aims of Evoke is to bring in (and kee in) the creativity of online gamers and maybe it would be worthwhile then to set up a communication structure that 'feels' like Evoke.

Thanx for the comments.

Thank you for the post. It does point out some very important points about EVOKE.

To be honest, from the beginning I have been having a hard time seeing this as a "game". It feels, acts and is designed a lot more like a run of the mill online community than a game.

I'm totally for all suggestions to increase the 'game' aspect of this site in the hopes of increased collaboration and interest.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
