Let’s now have a look now at Intelligent Grid.
What is a grid and how can we make it more Intelligent? The following info is coming from the igrid; the Intelligent Grid Research Program is an Australian Collaboration between the CSIRO and five universities technologies and practices to make our electricity networks smart, greener and more efficient. The electricity Grid is a collective name for all wires, transformers and infrastructure that transport electricity from power plants to users. In all networks, some energy is lost as it is travels, making distribution inefficient.
An Intelligent electricity grid has a minimal amount of waste and a highly efficient use of
power. It is an electricity network that uses distributed energy resources and advanced communication and control technologies to deliver electricity more cost-effectively, with lower greenhouse intensity and in response to consumer needs.

Fast facts--power sharing through an intelligent grid net might have prevented those rolling blackouts and rolling brownouts in the US and Canada a few years back. Does the IGrid program have plans for the outback, too? I have read homes in the hottest parts of the Outback are built into hills to conserve heating/cooling energies, water scarcities are mitigated with storage and reuse/re-purification systems and so forth, but the grid providing electricity can still be a fragile thing, especially over long distances, when, as you noted, energy is lost as it travels--and wires/connections are exposed to the elements over those same distances. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
