A crash course in changing the world.
Besides having an appartment in a city, my family also owns a small house in the countryside. When we moved in to the house the previous owners had already started a vegatable garden that was now overgrown with weeds. My family took the time one spring to totally clear it out and sow new seeds to grow into vegatables. By the middle of summer, there were sprouts and plants growing into things like lettuce, cuc**bers, tomatoes, potatoes, beans, squash. gourds and pumpkins. This year, we have already started to clear it out again to prepare for another summer of fresh, homegrown, organic veggies.
When a family friend and nieghbor slipped, hurt her hip, and was stuck in her house after the surgerey, she couldn't get out to do the shopping, so for the entire summer we brought over vegatables from our own garden so that she wouldn't have to leave the house to go shop, becaus other friends were supplying her with groceries. When her hip healed, she got out and planted a garden of her own.
When I was younger my grandmother worked in a oup kitchen, so whenever my parents would drive me out to stay with her over the vacations, she would take me in with her so thagt I could help prepare and serve the meals for all of the people who came in for the lunch rush. The soup kitchen also prepared dinners that could be picked up and taken home.
