I hold great hope in the future. I believe science and more specifically, nanotechnology will help solve the food security and food health issues.
Watch this quick intro by Ray Kurzweil.
In 2020, I will be in Maine with my wife and 2 children. Eating food that was grown locally. However, some of the food will no doubt be from other parts of the world. Most likely we got the food at our local market and had to drive to get it as we live in the woods. The entire family helped make it as we cook together and eat together. Now did I show you that video?
If Kurzweil's predictions are someone accurate we should be seeing the start of benefits from nanotechnology in 2020. We may have nanobots that will travel our blood stream helping with all kinds of tasks. One task that has enormous benefit would be a food filtration system. Not only will nanotechnology make this a reality, it will happen sooner than most of us think. Imagine a system where you could eat as much chocolate cake as you wanted and the nanobots would only take the nutrition it needed and absorbed nothing else into the body. Imagine people without clean drinking water drinking "bad" water and having the nanobots filtering impurities during the digestion process. Take it a bit further and food security won't be an issue as we will be able to email an apple. I know this sounds very far fetched. I promise it is not. It is coming. If you have a hard time wrapping your head around this idea just imagine trying to convince someone from 1980 that you will one day be able to play a game online with other people around the world that is about changing the world where you can post your thoughts, video, and pictures for others to see and comment on. The future is an exciting place my friends.
