In the year 2010 I wrote a blog
Foster Girl Sports! to inform the Urgent Evoke agents about the new sports academy/ club that my friend wanted to start to empower young girls in Uganda.
Apparently there was another project already seeking funds in Rwanda. I brought the network up to speed about the two project which I though would be good in building the teamwork, collaboration and self confidence in the young girls in and beyond Uganda.
Over the years I have worked tirelessly together with civil society an well-wishers to fundraise for these projects. The sports club was started and with a couple of other ideas from here and there she has managed to operate it sustainably. I must say that it must not have been simple for her.
Today she owns a gym where these girls can practice all sorts of sports. Both indoor and outdoor.
The Team in Rwanda which was empowered by the Global Giving Project is one of the most successful women sports team in East and Central Africa.
The lives of these women have changed so much . Through sports they have learnt to collaborate, work in groups, encourage each other and now they contending in professional football leagues where they are paid. this has helped them to raise their families, start small enterprises and also participate in social, political development of Rwanda.
At the end of their 10th Anniversary I must say that, they have achieved all they have ever dreamed of.
Who knew that sports would be this important in raising the status of the woman in communities?
I must say that the position of the woman has changed so much, and I must thank all of you who generously contributed to the development of this project, without your support, we probably wouldnt have succeeded this far!
