... to reach a million people.
I recently discovered Evoke thanks to my cousin, so I have a bit of catching up to do. In order to do this quickly I've decided to combine two learn missions in a two part post, namely the first and fourth. The first learn challenge was to pick one of thirty three secrets of social innovation that was my favourite. I chose "think and act big – don’t do anything that can’t reach a million people." The fourth was to "pick your favorite, awe-inspiring clean water project and tell the EVOKE network about it." For that challenge I chose a special water filter, but more on that later.
As a film maker and media student I appreciate the important of reaching as many people as possible with your product, be it a short film or a life changing innovation. If your product doesn't require millions of multiple copies and materials to be manufactured to still be useful to millions of people not only will it easier to distribute but it will be cost effective as well. In the same way you don't have to craft a million unique films for a million individuals to get a single message across you can also create one product that a million people can use.
An example could be the internet as wh***, sure you need the parts, the personal computers to access it, however computers weren't created for the internet. The internet, like other great inventions started with the basic tools and components already in existence and built up from that. Utilising the pre-existing inventions like the telecom networks, it could create something new. This concept, in my opinion, is a great asset to bringing about meaningful change to the people who need it most.
