I agree that for developing countries to come into their own, several practices must be in place: arrangements to work closely with elders and others in the community(ies) to ensure that specific aid/technologies needs are met, and not other, superfluous efforts undertaken. Diversity, cultural sensitivities, sovereignty of choice and action, philosophical and theological ideals/issues should remain decided within the community (although one hopes that issues of universal human rights might be…
I agree that for developing countries to come into their own, several practices must be in place: arrangements to work closely with elders and others in the community(ies) to ensure that specific aid/technologies needs are met, and not other, superfluous efforts undertaken. Diversity, cultural sensitivities, sovereignty of choice and action, philosophical and theological ideals/issues should remain decided within the community (although one hopes that issues of universal human rights might be open to discussion). While I agree that many efforts to undertake aid or other humanitarian activities might well take place within one's own "backyard"/culture, in this more global, travelled, inter-dependent and inter-related culture, perhaps shared efforts of humanitarian projects and philanthropy might also contribute to the betterment of the world's inter-dependent (even if parallel) populations.<br />
