Hannah, Well done, we have to make sure that local people are part of the decision making process, as they have the local knowledge, we are there to help not colonize.

I agree. In addition to solving problems, it is also important not to trample cultures in the process.

Beautifully put. We need to work as a community to solve problems, but we need to form a GLOBAL community to tackle the global concerns. We cannot do this alone!

This is the difference between an interesting idea and a good one. There are lots of interesting ideas that are completely impractical, because they are devised by people with no context for their implementation. Overly relying on statistics and calculations means people often ignore the cultural variables.

As a marketer, we are sometimes criticized with creating artificial needs (supplying people with things they don't need or want). I don't think this is a sustainable way to sell a product or market anything, you might get short run profits but you will never last in the long run. However, if the thing you are trying to market has some validity or definite benefit to people, you shouldn't let the way they do it discourage you from trying to get them to use it. However, if the thing you are trying to market has some validity or definite benefit to people, you shouldn't let the way they do it discourage you from trying to get them to use it. However, applying the right products to the right people is important as well. If a solar stove didn't work for the stew people, try to find a tribe of nomads who might need it instead. Just because a new innovation comes out doesn't mean it will benefit everyone, matching peoples needs to the product and segmenting the right target market is important as well. I agree. I agree. A person has to see the worth to THEIR lives, not to someone elses. I have clean water so selling me a machine to clean my water is not going to help me. You have to provide what people need in a manner in which they understand and desire it.
