You are absolutely correct with regard to what it's more efficient at... but I don't know of anyone able to make a solar panel using scrap metal.

Great post! I think when it comes to energy, it would be cool if people were taught a better understanding of how certain energy is good at certain things. Like wind, for example, generates a ton of mechanical energy. Thats why traditionally they used it to move things, like pumping water in Holland or crushing grain at mills. Its actually much less efficient to convert that mechanical energy to electricity. I just don't think alot of people grasp that simple concept...
