Consuming Kids throws desperately needed light on the practices of a relentless multi-billion dollar marketing machine that now sells kids and their parents everything from junk food and violent video games to bogus educational products and the family car. Drawing on the insights of health care professionals, children's advocates, and industry insiders, the film focuses on the explosive growth of child marketing in the wake of deregulation, showing how youth marketers have used the latest advances in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience to transform American children into one of the most powerful and profitable consumer demographics in the world.

Excellent reminder.."buying and selling, we waste our precious lives." At the time of the Protestant Reformation, we began our break from religious authority which sought to control us through a monopoly on our spiritual proclivities, now it's time to throw off the yoke of the marketeers who took the place of the religious authorities and manipulate our material proclivities. This manipulation is putting our very future of life on our planet in jeopardy. As Chris Jordan relates on Ted.com, "our unconscious behaviors are adding up to catastrophic consequences." http://www.ted.com/talks/chris_jordan_pictures_some_shocking_stats....

We're all been manipulated by the market place. If we wish to help our kids, we must begin deprogramming ourselves.

This is an amazing doco... well worth watching. Maybe the understanding the use of these psychological patterns can be transformed to more positive ends.

LEARN1- Social Innovator

My favorite, and perhaps most needed social innovation today, is "Don’t fight culture (If people cook by stirring their stews, they’re not going to use a solar oven, no matter what you do to market it. Make them a better stove instead.)"This simple idea has two meanings. First, it shows that the injustice of poverty and instability does not have a cookie cutter answer. Rather, it takes domestic and well educated responses that address the factors that drove a culture to suffer so, such as from…See More
