Empowering Women through Homestead Food Production

Helen Keller International's Homestead Food Production (HFP) program helps families improve their nutritional status and increase their income by creating year-round gardens with micronutrient-rich fruits and vegetables and small farms for raising poultry and livestock. Agricultural training and inputs as well as nutrition education is provided to the farmers, who are usually women.

The program also includes a component to raise awareness about gender roles that involves community leaders as well as the husbands of the participating women.
