I took this short video when I was in Cambodia recently, and just held my breath as a mother carrying her child just walked right through 6 or more lanes of traffic like she was going for a Sunday stroll. Amazing how it's quite normal for the people there, it took me ages to muster up the courage to cross the street. I'm so spoiled with traffic lights here.

Kavita Ramdas is the President and CEO of the largest non-profit organization in the world, exclusively funding women's human rights: the Global Fund for Women.
In her talk for TED she offers a digest on how women are reaching important goals, how they "get self-empowered" and they empower their societies.
These stories are very touching. They reached my heart because I also find it difficult to "make ends meet" in my own civilization. ENJOY!

I found this video through joining the UN-Womenwatch facebook page and was struck by the message "Empowerment of women can break the cycle of hunger and poverty. Daily, women are on the front line against hunger." I know that, but this reminded me that we need to empower women to have a voice that roars.
