Don't fight culture. This particular line made me think about how sometimes the best of efforts can go awry simply because the people being helped are not taken into consideration.
Many well meaning individuals do not understand that some of the most important people to an effort to change something are those being affected. If people storm a small African village, outraged that the villagers are living in huts, and demand that this be changed, this is not going to sit will with the villagers. Instead of trying to entirely change the way a group of people do something, people should first stand back for a moment and ask themselves if it will really help, or drastically change an important way of life. Although it takes innovation and thought to make a change, we must all try to do this with respect for those who have had their traditions for generations.
