As a new-comer to Social Innovation, I was astounded by the way that EVOKE succeeded in amassing such a huge and diverse team of thinkers and doers united under a common set of basic goals. I am grateful for the experience for two reasons: for giving me the inspiration and motivation to think about ways that I myself could make a difference in the world around me, and for creating what is now doubtless an immense database of visions, projects and solutions for the benefit of the rest of the world.
So what next, then?
Well, for starters, I hope that all of the mission posts from all the agents of this first season will be organised and stored in a searchable database so that others can benefit from the wonderful work done here.
As a member of the Dark Mountain Project, I have a particular interest and concern for the way that the various changes that we're slowly seeing in the world (economic collapse, climate change and growing resource scarcity to name but a few) are affecting our way of life both in the developing and the developed world. Our society is going to change in very palpable ways in our lifetime, and a lot of people don't expect it and aren't prepared to adapt. I'd like to see EVOKE set its agents on some of these 'long view' issues and see what comes of it.
I for one would definitely try to come back for a second season. It's been a lot of work, but I've found it immensely rewarding and consider myself much more informed on many many issues than I could previously have dreamed.
Agent James Hester, 'The Sword of Wisdom', standing down for now. Awaiting further orders. You know where to find me.
