Nowehere visible does it say that there are age restrictions. I have made a serious effort to find out what the rules are, but nobody bothered to put them in a place where I could find them. I have tried to be proactive about addressing this issue, but nobody seems to care. I really want to protest the way in which the managers of this site have failed to communicate clearly. It's just not good enough.
EDIT: Jane kindly replied to this very quickly, with a clarification.
At any rate, if you sincerely want mentorship, my advice is to submit your evokation and say exactly which mentor(s) you want to work with and why, and we will ensure that they at least see it.

Hi Chris, you ARE eligible to submit an EVOKATION; you are eligible for seed funding and support (but not travel scholarships/official mentorships, as outlined in the rules). And of course, anyone who shares an EVOKATION on the network is likely to discover opportunities for mentorship from the many network members/mentors who are happy to provide ideas, insights, connections. So you are certainly capable of benefitting from that, as well as the seed funding.
That said, the mission of the site is primarily for young innovators (35 and under), and these rules for scholarships and mentorships have been included in the Terms of Service since the launch of the game. However, in response to your concerns, in the future, we will make a stronger effort to make this clearer. Thanks for making your concerns heard.

Jane, thanks for your reply. But I have to disagree with you.
The Terms of Service state that the site is for over-13s, and the 'about' page states that evoke is open to anyone and top players are eligible for various awards. I looked, and NOWHERE on the page you go to find out about this site does it say that there are eligibility rules. (Or maybe they are there, but hidden behind the big message giving people the wrong idea.)
The rules I linked to above don't appear to be linked to from any obvious place. I'm gobsmacked. Your public announcements are seriously misleading. As Tom Waits says: The large print giveth and the small print taketh away. So much for transparency.
Jane, could you please explain what sort of 'support' I am eligible for? I have already contacted software developers, angel investors, politicians, everyone in my address book who could help me. What I really need is a high-powered mentor to help me through the process of turning my Evokation into a viable stable long-term business - with the objective of relocating to Africa and providing employment and training opportunities. USD1000 isn't going to make a lot of difference, the award you just took away is vital.

Hi Chris,
The rules are mentioned/linked in section 15 of the ToS. While I strongly agree with you that in future seasons these should be more prominent, they were included.
You still have the power of the EVOKE network and all of the mentors look at the site. If you have a particular mentor from our list in mind, we can make sure they look at your evokation, and of course they will have the option to mentor anyone they like -- we won't prohibit that. We have used the phrase "young people" in every release and description of the game to make clear our outreach goals -- on the about page, for example; "The goal of the social network game is to help empower young people all over the world, and especially young people in Africa, to come up with creative solutions to our most urgent social problems." At any rate, if you sincerely want mentorship, my advice is to submit your evokation and say exactly which mentor(s) you want to work with and why, and we will ensure that they at least see it.

And to add -- despite our primary mission to reach young people, we didn't want to restrict anyone from participating, as we see the primary value of EVOKE not in the prizes, but in the experience and access to the EVOKE community. That's why we chose to open it up to anyone, anywhere, even if the rules for a portion of the prizes are for 35-and-under.

I didn't realize this either until just now when Temura commented on Patricio's Our Evoke page. As I said in my Mission 10 post, as much as I've enjoyed Evoke I find the wh*** site very confusing to use and hard to navigate. I also didn't realize until the last minute that I had to complete all 10 quests in order to get certified, since the main page mentions only completing ten 'game challenges', which I had assumed meant missions. It was the certification I was mainly trying to get-- I hope that's still possible. But I wish I'd known about the age restrictions earlier. I would have made a big effort to search out younger participants and offer my help.
Which brings me to something I've talked about before but I don't think I included on my mission post: Evoke 2 should really be designed to make it easy for people to collaborate. Evoke 1 has had the tendency to encourage people to do things individually, and sometimes even competitively. I think that should remain an option for those who want it, but the 'default' mode should be designed to be the team effort, in my opinion. That might also go a long way towards cutting down on the acrimony, too. Even if teams became bitter competitors the individual members would have their teammates to fall back on so they didn't end up feeling like the lone outcast if they fell afoul of some of the more aggressive members.

I completely agree with you, the Evoke manage, they handle it wrong..... I already say no to the investment seed for the opportunity to the travel and the online mentors.... I am 2 years old for the travel and ... what happen with the mentors? .... there is any rule about that? how many time they will be helping our projects?...I am very disappointed!!

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
