Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Bill McKibben and 350.org have called for an international work day to stop climate change on October 10, 2010. I have proposed to him that there should 350.org should provide an online solutions architecture in order to promote and support those practical demonstrations of climate solutions on October 10 and to make sure they continue after that day.

350.org has already made a nod in that direction with its workparty-ideas page on their site but they could go much farther by linking to a number of organizations around the world who are providing practical solutions to energy and climate problems.

Here are two organizations which are trying to provide the full range of possibilities for sustainable technology:

Here are two other organizations which are focused on solar and solar cooking:

Here are two permaculture resources:

350.org could actively link to other groups with ongoing work on similar problems such as the Transition Towns movement:

the Common Security Clubs:

weatherization barnraisers like the Home Energy Efficiency Team of Cambridge, MA:

Building up to 10/10/10, I'd like to see people start doing climate and energy education at the over 4000 farmers' markets that happen every week around the USA throughout the growing season as in http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/2/13/836661/-Mr-Franklins-Folks-...

I'd like to see some mechanism so that the 10/10/10 work groups stick together and do other climate change work on an ongoing basis. My guess is that legislation is not going to be enough. All of us are going to have to change the way we live and work and shop as well as vote. This has got to be a mass movement on an exceedingly practical level.

Of course, I say Solar IS Civil Defense and think that there's a direct line from renewables to emergency and disaster (http://solarray.blogspot.com/2008/05/solar-is-civil-defense-illustr...)

The Place: online to support practical actions around the world
The Challenge: to provide information and support to groups interested in doing practical work around climate change, activities that will benefit anyone interested in using energy and resources more efficiently with less waste
The Idea: online solutions architecture through 350.org, an already recognized international organization
The Money: the first $1000 would go to a staffer at 350.org to begin building the online resources and connecting groups

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
