"Every day around one thousand women die while giving birth, most of them in developing countries. Most complications and deaths could be easily prevented by a midwife with the right skills, the right equipment, and the right support. But there's a shortage of some 350,000 midwives around the world.
international day of midwives
"This 5km walk is the first stage of the road to Durban where midwives from around the world will gather at the ICM Triennial Congress and help us ensure that global commitments to midwifery remain firmly on the agenda.
ICM has developed an information pack to help midwives around the world to raise awareness of midwifery issues, plan and promote local activities and provide ideas for celebrating the International Day of the Midwife 2011" -

i think this is a great idea, although there are probably many other problems in the world that could be helped other than this. it is a way of showing how much information could be put out to the world about any problem.
i beleive that every woman who is baring a child should be helped, and should never be left alone especially through delivery.
