I'm celebrating my 100th birthday today. No one came. None physically at least...except for my loving wife who is always at my side. A lot of friends greeted me in a social network, some left a message in my voicemail, while some left electronic gifts and cards.
I miss the old days...back in the 90s...before mobile phones, laptops, tablets. The more gadgets became mobile, the more socializing became electronic...like softcopies of emotions portrayed with keyboard characters.
Whatever happened to real socialization? When people "hangout", played parlor games, went to picnics? It's nostalgic, really...I can probably blame myself also for not treasuring these gatherings of olden times.
That's probably what I can pass on to the young ones....amidst being "connected" online, nothing beats a warm hug from a loved one.
I guess I have a wish already for next year's birthday.
