Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Since today was "think day" I spent most of my time wandering around the city, just looking and watching. And the more I looked around, the more things I saw could be fixed - such as graffiti on the walls that needed to be painted over or houses that needed to be fixed up. Then I went about figuring out how they could be changed, and what I came up with was through youth volunteers.

You see, most of my issues with coming up with an idea were the things that I wanted to help find solutions for. I knew that my main focus was on Education - more importantly, the youth that are being left to sit at home alone or find their way outside and into gangs. I wanted to be able to fill that "unused" time with something. But what? And how?

There are "Boys and Girls" Clubs around here. Even some Community Centers in the city. But those are, more often then not, uninhabited by those they are meant to service. The problem is that they just do not offer what their target market is looking for - a way out.

The image that came to my head on an almost constant basis was that of a kid looking for some studio time in order to record a few songs. Maybe he or she was too young to get a job or just wasn't able to transport him or herself too and from a job. Whatever the case was I came to the conclusion that it could be possible, through community service, to earn enough "credits" to get that studio time.

That's when I came up with this:

It is a simple concept, really. Go around to sporting events or any one of the many events that are going on in this city at any given time and collect spare change in order help finance the "rewards" given to those who earn enough "credits" to take part in an activity of their choosing.

You give something, you get something. Seemed logical enough.

That's a great idea, Eric. I really like how you can earn something by giving to others. I grew up in Florida and they have a program where you can earn college scholarships by doing community service (and a few other things) which was super helpful! I also like your idea in that it draws on something really important to youth culture, namely creating music. Since you mentioned graffiti, it also made me think of this: http://www.ci.east-palo-alto.ca.us/police/pdf/GAP_Report.pdf. :)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
