A crash course in changing the world.
This week I used storytelling as an alternative currency. It may sound crazy at first but get this:
On the street an elderly man asked me for a cigarette. Usually I would just hand him one and think to myself "Damn, I lost another cigarette to a beggar." but this time I had a idea. It wasnt even planned, it just came to me in that second so I said "I will give you a cigarette in exchange for a story of yours." He was confused (as expected) at first and asked "What do you mean? What sort of story?". So I said "It doesnt matter. Just a random story, a thing you experienced. Something that made you think or wonder. something like that". Still being confused he then told me his story, the story of his life, how he used to travel around when he was younger, how he came to meet a girl in Paris, fall in love, move to France and marry her. About how she tricked him, ran away with his money and left him alone, in a foreign country, without family or friends. He told me how he moved back to Germany, wouldnt find a job and end up on the street. It was probably the saddest story I ever heard from someone in personal.
