A crash course in changing the world.
Bartering is a common form of exchange that is often overlooked. We barter our services all of the time in order to get done what we need to. For instance, "I will work on preparing for the lab today if you will pick up the supplies." These type of verbal transactions can be key to getting this done in the best way possible. Why not create an economic system which is more capable of using this type of idea. For instance, dropping off used clothes in order to receive extra goods from someone else such as excess food, medicine or old equipment that they do not use. Spending time working in an apartment complex it was amazing the things that people would throw away, fridges, tv's furniture, pretty much anything could become trash in order to avoid taking the time to find something to do with it. While living in Charleston during the summer I had a charity help me with moving out of my apartment and in return for their help I let them keep the furniture that I did not need in order to sell towards helping those in poverty. This interaction helped me to move out in a timely manner and especially in time for a wedding but also probably raised much more money for a good cause than the manual labor would have been able to achieve in another way.
