A crash course in changing the world.
In an approach to better help those of the United States and other well-developed nations around the world see the use of water in the community, I have developed a mini ecosystem containing a neighborhood of several homes on a single sanitation/water system. In the project, individuals will be able to examine a neighborhood from eye level in an effort to better understand water and its use as well as possible waste in our water systems. The ecosystem of the neighborhood which is comparable to a small swimming pool features eight homes. Every home contains any combination water using appliances such as dish-washers, sinks, toilets, showers, washing machines, water hoses and many other appliances. While individuals observe the project, they will have the option to see how much water is wasted by these few homes on a single sanitation/water system. Each home contains a button which controls at random each appliance in a given house. That house will then conduct its retrieval and return of water into the collection system. From there the water is recycled and collected in an artificial pond. Through this project, citizens will be able to see the immense effects that just eight homes have on a community water system. Its staggering and the approach gives a better understanding to those who may not have an understanding. The project is accurate but purely a demonstration. The intended goal of the project is also to change the habits of those who consume water in developed regions. Some facts to remember with this project: Although the planet is full of water (70%), only 1% of the world's water supply is accessible to humans. Therefore, it is important for us to conserve our valuable resources.
