Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I've always been fascinated by objects with multiple functions: Swiss Army knives, chairs that fold into step ladders. And I've always wondered why there is not more thought given to what is sometimes called 'Appropriate Technology' - modest designs that fit the environment, do the job and fill a need- or even multiple needs- at a modest cost.

Both of these characteristics are met in spades by the Aquaduct - a bicycle with a water tank and a filtration system operated by pedal. For the vast number of people-- especially women and girls-- who must walk long distances at great cost in terms of both physical wear and tear and time in order to collect water the genius of this invention can hardly be overstated. The Aquaduct cuts time to the water source by allowing the water collector to ride instead of walk. Then, having filled the tank, she rides back home, forcing the water through the filtration system and sending the clean water to the container in front.

This wonderful machine was the winning entry in the 'Innovate or Die' competition held by Google and Goodby Silverstein & Partners to encourage the development of pedal-powered solutions to environmental problems.

What a great idea! I love multi-functional inventions as well.

What a neat invention! Thanks for pointing it out. I was looking for things like this yesterday but did not run across this one.

It looks funny but its function is more important. Although I couldn’t imagine nice ride aside a good concrete road. When I ride my bicycle I go on bumpy roads....

Sarah, a great solution that solves many problems at the same time, thanks

Cool! Of course, my daughters wouldn't ride it unless it were pink ...

Thanks for sharing that great innovation.

Awesome! Hippo Water Rollers has a similar rolling idea, allowing to people to transport (though not filter) up to 100L more safely and efficiently than on their heads.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
