A crash course in changing the world.
in Mexico we are not yet conscious about the water problem, maybe because we are sourrounded by water and have a lot of rivers and so; maybe because we suffered flods every year; or maybe because 88% of the population has access to safe water.
But people doesn't realize that every year more and more sectors in big cities (Mexico City and Monterrey) have shortages or cut downs every now and then through the week.
And Mexcio face another problem: the end of natural oasis like Cuatro Cienegas - unique in the world -(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuatro_Ci%C3%A9negas) or Chapala Lake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Chapala)
I research about NGO or other kind of organizations that deals with the water issues in Mexico, but I didn't find a lot. But the one I found is a very good one. ProNatura, which is an NGO that promotes nature conservation and one of their main actions is on water. http://www.pronatura.org.mx/water_pronatura.php
I sent an email to pronatura@pronatura.org.mx asking how can I get involve, and also I registered to receive the newsletter and to be a volunteer. Let see how it goes.
Cheers!!!
