Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Do the hard work needed to find a simple solution.

Ok, so here I am, starting out on my EVOKE journey. Of all the 33 secrets of social innovation contained in the doc**ent, this one leapt out at me and grabbed me by the throat. I'll tell you why - I almost wimped out of this wh*** thing. I looked at the incerdible, world-changing things that people are trying to do through EVOKE and I didn't think I'd be up to it. I am not a scientist. I have no influential connections. What can I do? That's what I thought. Then this statement came up and smacked me in the face. Not every solution to a problem needs micro-technology or in-depth understanding of rocket-science (although I imagine they probably help considerably in some cases!). Often the answer is very simple, and it is hard-work and persistance that is necessary to make it come through. So, although this might not be the most complicated of the concepts required for successful social innovation, it's the one that inspired me to actually try to help, and to believe that just maybe I can.

That's it!! You've got it.

1% Inspiration, 99% perspiration as a teacher's teacher's teacher used to say... (and subsequently passed on by each teacher thereafter in no subtle manner!)

Thank you!
The fact that even one person has read this is encouraging.
And I will!

Jane- I've given you a +1 for 'spark' because your post is a great reminder of how different our strengths are -- and how essential we are to one another. I think many of us have a tendency to discount our own strengths and think the things which come naturally to us are things that everybody can do-- nothing special. But if we can overcome those feelings for long enough to get 'in the game' we may find that not only are our special gifts not as common as we thought-- but they may be just what someone else needs to make full use of their own gifts.

I feel kind of the same way. For the past few years I have concerned myself mainly with art and entertainment and really felt that I cant possibly change anything, but youre right. If you cant come up with something sophisticated, try something simple.
Great post, thank you

Thanks guys,

I'm halfway through a BA in English Literature (although all the typos may suggest otherwise) so about those skills that seem more everyday...

I've been thinking: those of us who focus on art, written or visual, do have the ability to speak to people, and that's a start. I'm thinking that even if I can't manage the really clever technical stuff, there's a massive range of campus and local presses at my fingertips, just itching to be told about EVOKE and what it's doing.

Tomas - what kind of arts incidentally?

Very nice! I find your post very inspiring, and writing in a interesting, intellectual manner. I find your ideas to be very true and remember; without the will to work, even brilliant minds would found nothing.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
