CEO of International Development Enterprises (India), Amitabha Sadangi is a person for the people. Selling things at a fifth of their potential, it is no wonder that he has become the Social Entrepreneur of the Year for India, and a WTN Finalist. Truly, this man is a modern day hero, providing cheap and effective equipment for people that suffer from poverty in India.Sadangi holds a Post Graduate Degree in Labor and Social Welfare with yet another degree in Law. He selflessly sacrificed a possibly lucrative government career for the fight against poverty, already displaying him as a model citizen. His goal (after ambling about, helping impoverished people in India), was to start the IDE in India. To make a long story short, it worked, putting him as a finalist in the WTN.
The India branch of International Development Enterprises has been impeccably successful, producing the Treadle Pump which had sold 500,000 items until March of 2004, whereupon sales rose at an average of 40,000 pumps a year. In addition to this, the KB Drip was incredibly successful and helpful. For the smaller farmers who owned as little as on hectare of land, large scale irrigation was just too expensive. The KB Drip solved this as a very small version of it. Along with being able to purchase a size appropriate irrigation system, it's cheaper too!
Being an entrepreneur though, Sadangi has also found a way to profit off of this. Each KB Drip makes anywhere from 100-400% profit! That is business genius at it's best. I have chosen to follow this man for where he has gone, and where he will go. He has the potential to redefine life in India.
