Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Call the EVOKE Network to action.  This is your chance to harness the collective and collaborative powers of EVOKE.  Submit a challenge to the Network in this discussion thread, and my team and I might feature it in the Breaking News box.

A good challenge will take only a short time to complete.  Consider these possible challenge themes, or suggest something of your own:

- Collaborative efforts
- Making new connections within the Network
- Forming teams/Working together
- Looking for patterns in the Evidence
- Collective intelligence challenges
- Creative challenges

HOW TO SUBMIT A CHALLENGE:

1 - In this discussion thread, describe your challenge.  Tell us what you’d like to see the EVOKE Network do.

2 - Choose the EVOKE Power or Powers you want to see grow. Tell us how you think the challenge
should be rewarded.

If your challenge is selected to be featured, you will earn +100 Spark.

The Network awaits your call to action.

I challenge Evokers who have more to experience what it's like to have less, and post a photo or video to prove it. Post title = EvokersEvoking 2010, tag = haveless

I believe one needs to spend time in the company of those less fortunate to understand how lucky we are and this would be a reminder for us all in the collection we come up with.

The collection can also be used as a record of what we started with before we made a difference.

Thinking beyond that we can sell books/calendar/cards/etc, with a few limited editions signed by Alchemy for auction. All proceeds go towards a cause to make a difference for the goodness in life for all.

Let the First Annual Evokers Evoking competition begin. Worth 100 Courage points.
I would like the EVOKE network to provide me with a network of people who can support my Gone Cyclin' initiative, project spinning dreams.I co-founded this project to encourage young people to make a difference through healthy living and sustainable habits.

My two team mates and I are competing in a 450 km mountain bike race in East Timor to fundraise $60,000 dollars for a local micro-finance called Timor Aid.

We would like to be able to run yearly program where we can encourage young people to make a difference and be kind to our planet and themselves.
EvokersEvoke Challenge: NonProfits Join Together Virtually

My vision is to have the first Virtual Evoke Conference. The challenge to the network will be to attend it by preparing for the date and being there.

The power I want to grow is Collaboration because Evoke has provided an opportunity we must capitolize on. The network is connected thanks to Evoke but needs organizing into logical streams to keep the momentum going and the collaboration happening. There's lot's already started but not enough. That's what I'd like this conference focus on but for sure we'll have music and dancing time too.

HOW THE CHALLENGE CAME TO ME:
I volunteer for a nonprofit and am a member of the Nonprofit Commons (NPC) in Second Life, sponsored by TechSoup Global. We meet every Friday at 8:30 AM and in a little over two years have grown to host over 80 nonprofit offices from around the world on 4 islands, one for environmental causes, one for health and two a mixture of social causes. We have held many mixed reality and special events as well.

In our 'open mic' time at today's meeting, which happened to be a celebration of Earth Day as well as our 1 year anniversary for the environmental island, I spoke about Urgent Evoke, and how I've learned so much and see such potential for a global connection I felt it would be of interest to everyone.

It struck me that it would be just as valuable if I let Urgent Evoke know about the NPC, and from there I realized it is ideal as a platform for a global conference. We at the NPC already know how to hold meetings with people from around the world, we can stream in live video, music and... it's fun. The immersive experience has to be experienced, as like Urgent Evoke, Second Life, to me and many others inworld, it's not a game.

RESOURCES NEEDED:
I will need help with the planning and organizing, promoting and holding the conference. This includes:
program manager; project manager; organizers; mentors; graphic designer; media co-ordinator.

In Second Life: media co-ordinator, builders, support staff (help, meeting moderators, media, security).

Second Life is free so no cost to participants.

Keep in mind this is in the "Imagine" stage, but imagine a virtual global meeting - for those who have a capable computer and network so not everyone, but still, we have the potential to connect hundreds of social innovators with nearly zero energy footprint used (no travel costs).

POWERS EARNED:
Many, tbd.

AND FINALLY
Meanwhile, a shameless plug notice for nonprofits:
TechSoup Global, a nonprofit organization helping other nonprofits with technology by providing reduced price software and support, is a must-know for any nonprofit who uses technology!

and everyone is welcome at the Nonprofit Commons see you there:

Nonprofit Commons: http://www.nonprofitcommons.org

And finally: I think my challenge should be rewarded by selecting my idea as one of the 10 challengers who gets to meet with the social innovators to help plan the streams and topics, and the $1000 seed money to pay for the conference.
Inspire the EVOKE Network. Tell a story about how you influenced your family or friends to change a chronically negative mindset or habit.

1 - How did you convince them to accept a new mindset?

2 - How did you convince them to adopt novel behaviors?

THE CHALLENGE: You must be one of the first 10 to submit your story by 9:00 am EST on May 3, 2010.

Stories can be any size in scale: You helped your uncle, a chain smoker of 40 years, quit smoking; You helped your neighbors start recycling; You helped integrate new members into a traditionally h***geneous church; You helped organize your community in your local election.

For a famous example, check out A Complaint Free World.

Remember, a moving story is more effective if it includes the full context, beginning to end. And avoid focusing on the morals of the tale. Let the story do the talking. But be sure to go into detail about your thought-process and behavior.

I believe everybody, every single member, in the EVOKE network has at least one amazing story to share. I hope your inspiring stories will propel more people to share theirs. This is the essence of Spark.

But because these stories will be full of useful, reproducible methods, this is also Knowledge Share. Thus, we have created Smart Spark.

Please tag your story "Inspiring Influence".

Time to pass on the ball!

- Brian
Ok this one bombed, not one person posted a photo tagged 'haveless'. Perhaps it was the wrong tag, the intent was to provide evidence you helped someone who had less than you so you wouldn't forget them and would do something to make their life better either individually if you knew them, or for a cause that would help them. I put up two: I will be sending the mother of a family I stayed with some warmer clothes it gets cold up in the mountains, and for the little girl I didn't know her, but I donated to a women's organization in Cambodia where she was from.

Does this spark anyone I wonder? Oh, and lol I didn't know but it's really only worth one point I don't have the power to give anyone 100 unless I u have 100 posts and I click on every one, sorry. Just one point but there's 99 good wishes behind it.

I started a group in Second Life called Urgent Evoke in preparation for the conference. I've scouted out some places and it may be I can get use of a private virtual world for free which uses the Second Life client. Stay tuned it's going to happen.

Hi Buffy, great idea, as I said over the weekend I will reply to all of you, who have made a tremendous difference in the thought process of poverty.
One process, which could be a possibility for the conference is using Skype.
I am not a technician, so have no idea how it could work.

Talk to you all soon
I challenge the Evoke network to join the new agent chat (http://ning.it/abdiAH) and share their ideas of other features they would like to see in the second season
great work Buffy...I am available to help...

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
