Secret plan not so secret
I did some digging around on the interwebs regarding emergency response plans in Iceland, considering that Katla may well erupt soon and make our lives interesting.
I started with the Search & Rescue organization, SAR Iceland. They didn't have that much info in English on their page, so I e-mailed them to ask about their disaster response plan. They directed me towards the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, who have a nice website in English with lots of information for the public.
They have emergency response plans for natural or man-made disasters like volcanic eruptions, large earthquakes, plane crashes, pandemic influenza and so on. You can read the Civil Protection Act or check the multitude of links to useful information.
Some things you can learn on this website:
- general instructions on preventative measures for disasters, accidents or hazards.
- general precautions in case you find yourself in a dangerous situation.
- instructions in case of evacuation
- emergency guidelines in case of volcanic eruption.
- security measures and instructions in case of major earthquakes.
- what to do if you are caught in an avalanche.
- the pandemic response plan.
And of course a list of useful links in English.
Since my company employs a lot of foreigners (non-Icelandic), this information will be very useful for us and I have spread the link to the website to my colleagues.

The meal
It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
