I am owning a small company, making video games. We are now working on a game adapted from a sci-fi book called "Blue Gold", dealing with water issues in a far future, when there is no more water in the Mediterranean Sea and a globally dry world. The team is made from almost equally men and women, coming from all over the world, and of all age. I have chosen to recruit very various profiles as I think it is a very good thing for creation.
During my lunch break, I am giving some free written French class to emigrant inhabitants of Saint Denis for a local association working on adult integration assistance. Some of them are living here since 30 years and have a good oral French, but need to practice reading and writing ; some others just arrived and an barely say "bonjour". But as the all volunteer for the class, they show a lot of motivation to learn, and it goes pretty well.
I just come back at work, when I get the call from Alchemy. I set up a reunion with my coworkers to see what ideas we can find to help. Asumi comes from Japan, so she knows the situation in detail. "The cities are overcrowded and there is not much place for agriculture. Moreover, most of the people living there never lived in the countryside and have no idea of how they can cultivate anything or even how to breed animals like chicken."
"So maybe we can help on that point", I ask ? "There is this software we made with farmers and breeders last year to help young people of Saint Denis learning how to cultivate and breed. Of course, it has to be translated and adapted to Japanese environment, but it certainly could help." I ask the team to call our partners for this translation, farmers who worked with us on the previous project.
Another coworker suggests we should create another version to help teachers learning that, because it will have even more impact. Another one says that maybe we should look for other Evoke agents that are biologic engineers to help us on the adaptation to Japanese climate. "Let's do that !"
Just before everyone get to work, I add : "And, this stays between us, ok ? " Some raise their eyebrows, some smile : "Of course ! "
Missions like that takes time, but it is not a waste of time. It gives a lot value to what we do here, and helps motivating the team. I really think everyone here loves the secret organization thing. It is like a game for us. A game that would helps us give a meaning to our work.
