Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Episode 1 CODE PHRASE: "The earth moves at different speeds depending on who you are.”

It's an old Nigerian proverb:  "The earth moves at different speeds depending on who you are.”

What do you think this code phrase means to the Evoke network?

To me this means that different people will focus on different parts of a problem because they will see it in different realities.
This Nigerian proverb runs parallel to Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity (more exactly the Theory of Simultaneity) which states that "Two events, simultaneous for one observer, may not be simultaneous for another observer if the observers are in relative motion."

I think this means that when people join at later missions, they have a more harrowing challenge, and sped-up learning curve, than those who are inspired enough to get involved early on. Long live the early adopters, team!

I agree with the ideas of this quote refering to what one does in ones life that will impact how fast the day seems to go by. I also believe that age has much to do with how fast the earth moves, when one is young you can not wait for the years to go by, and once you reach mid life you wish they would slow down.
Which is also true in the summer months which go bye so much faster and the winter months dragging along.

I always find that the trip to somewhere is always slower then the ride home :)
Understand that not all people are the same.
That's a great thing about humanity we are different.

This phrase will also lead to an understanding that solutions to problems will need to be tailored differently for the target group.
Relating to your target audience and having an understanding of their history and motivation will allow you design workable solutions to problems.

Not recognizing that not all problems can be resolved with cookie cutter solutions will no doubt lead to failure.
I believe it is a very wise proverb that seeks harmony and understanding of all people. Everyone is different thus senses things different. Not one is ever the same but equal due to the fact they are able to sense. It could be said all people sense, think, or act in one way or another. Consideration of all aspects in the world and the people within should be respected and not be overlooked. Evoke network is a place for ideas of all colors and fragrances, because people were "evoked" from all over in different regions with different natures but for a common cause which is "a better tomorrow".
I see it as literal. Individual experiences shape our perception of the world. Your life shapes the quantum measurement of time.
When you are thinking about the rest of your day and looking forward to tomorrow, ask yourself what you are looking forward to.
Making enough money to buy food for your family? Carrying the 80 pounds of water you'll need to irrigate your crops so you'll have enough at the end of the season to pay your landowner for rent on your small farm? Walking for a day and a half to get your sick child to the nearest health clinic two days away without being turned away?
If not, the earth moves at a much different speed for you than for the poorest of the poor. For the people who live hand to mouth on less than $1 a day, just trying to get through the day must require more strength and courage than it takes me to get through an entire semester of graduate school.
we chase the earth as it moves and shape what we want to perceive it as and live as. Right now I feel a great unbalance with most individuals of this earth, we strive to make that extra penny instead of making that extra effort morally. It may not seem like a big issue but it is the root to establishing a proper mindset for good. I feel though that most are trapped by this, the earth has given us the tools to live not to work for luxuries, but to work towards maintaining earth should be put at our number one priorities to make a better place for your neighbour next to you and for the generations to come. We all have the capabilities to help our environment because most know that when they see that new car in the window it intregues one more to work toawrds obtaining it to be happy, but what one really needs is to be happy with the life we have been given for most dont get to expereince themselves life because greed has made it harder on them.
In relation to our EVOKE network, I think it means that everyone will work at their own pace, but the earth, and EVOKE, will still move at its pace. It's whether or not people want to catch up with that will depend on who you are as a person.
Ultimately, as we are riding upon the Titanic approaching the global catastrophe of Peak Oil and Peak Commodities, Robert's story becomes ever-relevant. Not as a choice, but as a necessity. We were warned.
Consider 1992 World Scientists' Warning to Humanity http://www.ucsusa.org/about/1992-world-scientists.html

"Some 1,700 of the world's leading scientists, including the majority of Nobel laureates in the sciences, issued this appeal in November 1992. Human beings and the natural world are on a collision course. Human activities inflict harsh and often irreversible damage on the environment and on critical resources. If not checked, many of our current practices put at serious risk the future that we wish for human society and the plant and animal kingdoms, and may so alter the living world that it will be unable to sustain life in the manner that we know. Fundamental changes are urgent if we are to avoid the collision our present course will bring about."

The fundamental changes were NOT made. Thomas Friedman-style Flat Earth technotopians disregard the reality that the world simply does not have enough resources for 7 billion people to enjoy a lifestyle equal to today's USAmerican/European middle cla****, with 20% of the world's population using 80% of the resources. The Powers-that-Be are not unaware of this reality. Population reduction in 3rd World may be their choice, rather than reduction of wasteful consumption in wealthy countries.
I don't think that you can always make things happen. Sometimes you have to let things to happen. Let's say that a farmer has some seeds he then plants and waters them. He has to wait for them to grow. He has played his part but the growth process is up to the plant. It's determined by various factors that he doesn't have control over. The factors may be adverse or favourable.

There are people who make things happen, those who wait for things to happen and those that watch things happen. The fisher man is one of those who wait for things to happen and to him the earth moves slowly. The earth speed for go-getters moves very fast becuase everyday is a new day for them.

Another perspective:

"A fishing boat was docked in a tiny coastal village south of the border. An American tourist complimented the local fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. "Not very long", answered the fisherman. "Then why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American. The man said that his small catch was enough for his family. The American asked, "What do you do with the rest of your time?" The fisherman replied, "I sleep late, play with my children, catch a few fish, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar and sing a few songs. I have fun…"

The American interrupted, "Hey, I have an MBA and I can help you. Start by fishing longer every day and selling the extra fish you catch then you can buy a bigger boat. The larger boat will bring in more money and you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet. Instead of selling to a middleman, you can sell directly to the processing plants. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, LA or New York City! There you can direct your enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the fisherman. "20-25 years", replied the American. "And after that?" asked the fisherman. "That's when it gets really interesting", answered the American, smiling. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!" "Millions? Really? And after that?" asked the fisherman.

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny coastal village, sleep late, play with your grandchildren, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and playing the guitar with your friends!"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
