An interesting mission. My use of an alternative currency was done in collaboration with agent Paul Freund (I'm sure he'll make a similar post). We had been speaking about an international currency and both felt, that even though it would be unbelievably difficult to implement, that it would be the brightest possible future of money available. We decided to conduct a small amount of economic transactions using something apart from money as our currency.
We agreed on using the lids of coke bottles as our currency for the economic transactions. We gave ourselves a few days to collect as many as we could. I managed to collect 13 whereas Paul got hold of 21. The next day we set about making transactions based solely on these coke bottle lids.
It was a fun small scale experiment to conduct. We tagged a value to the objects that we "bought" and "sold". The truth is though, that it couldn't really be effective because at the end of the day, if I had "sold" something to Paul, all I had gotten was a lousy handful of coke bottle lids! We did agree though that if everyone used a similar currency daily, the concept had the potential to work on a larger scale.
