More information about Ger District

This is an addtional post I wanted to make to answer Edwige Lelievre's questions (which were very inquisitive and essential, by the way).

I've talked about the basics of Ger District. But let's learn more about it.

The temperature variations: I've taken the liberty to take the climate table off the wikipedia:

It can get as cold as -35 Celsius in the winter, and as hot as 35 Celsius in the summer. The city is titled the coldest capital in the world.

Farmable land: People can plant vegetables in a small spaces inside their plot. The average plot is usually 0.7 sq.hectares, as given by the government. I did have seen several households having grown vegetables like potatoes and carrots in their backyard. In the countryside there are big fields with potatoes. The Eastern Mongolia is more of plain/steppe, so every spring the plantation starts under "Atriin ayan" campaign, and the vegetables, predominantly potatoes, are harvested in autumn.

Earth. I took a picture of the earth around the city, I will upload soon somewhere. There are sparse, small gra****, and as far as I can tell, the land has more sand than soil. There are very little trees grown between the roads.

Rain. The city gets moderate amount of rain. That's all I can tell.

Animals. Traditionally, you would see goats, sheep, cows, horses and in some cases, camels all around Mongolia. In Ulaanbaatar, camels and horses are obviously rare; sheep, goats and cows are occasionally seen in the suburbs (aka the ger district) and some households have pigs, geese, chicken and other animals around. The animals need space to graze around and some ger districts have crampy structure thus no animals.

No food is restricted due to our religion. Hmm... None that I can think of.

I couldn't find any data on the literacy and unemployment rate. Unemployment rate is significantly high. I would have to interview people for their job or ask the municipal administratives for the common jobs. I think in terms of contagious disease they're more on the same ground despite poor sanitation. There hasn't been any outbreaks since 1990s ch***ra outbreak.

Cancer, however, is a big issue. I think it is due to bad quality food imported from China. The diet pyramid of ger district people are dependent on the shops around. I summed that flour-based products are consumed much, and vegetables/fruits are critically rare; instant noodles, breadloaves and biscuits make big amount of consumption due to its cheap price.

Speaking of source of income: The last election was an auction of two political parties competing in promise of giving away free money. The promises were big, and approximately $50 is being handed to everyone. But this makes the people dependent and un-hard working.
