Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Hello, everyone!

I have made a platform (in Facebook) for all of us to stay in touch, even if not "friended". It is a user group under the name "EVOKE Founders, Class of 2010", and it is for now open.

After the 20th, it will go semi-dark and it will become "secret", accessible by invitation only.

It has a board and everyone is welcome to come post updates on their projects however they wish. For my part, it will remain censorship free (within Facebook's own content policies, of course). Yes, I do mean everyone, even Squishy.

This is a way for us to stay in touch without having to be on each other's Facebook friends lists for those who do not want certain people on theirs or for those who wish to keep their Facebook friends list small and only with family and close friends/coworkers.

I hope everyone joins in and keeps those of us in the group informed of your ongoing progress.

Ok I have to say it... Aren't most of the major articles on Digg saying how bad facebook has become and recommending we delete our accounts?

I certainly gained a lot out of this experience and hope to see season 2 become even more (I am pondering ways to setup a good orientation (re-orientation) for when it does start to recap season 1. I am one of the people who decided facebook just didn't have the right ethics for me to participate in (and their automatically installing things was the final straw). Best of luck all and maybe a different platform might work as well.

Samiran, I seriously doubt that the WBI has been using the free Ning account. And since the official word from the EVOKE team is what I described, as of this week, with everything being available except posting new evidence and adding new members, then I'm not sure why you would think that the site is going away.

And as for Facebook, yeah, it sucks. But not for the reasons most people say it sucks. :-)

In fact, I see that the WBI is paying for the fanciest plan that Ning has to offer already, as the site has it's own domain name, is able to upload videos, and doesn't have ads or Ning links on it.

Turil,
How long will they do this for us?
I don't trust the WB :(

Our content is completely at their mercy
Comment by Turil Cronburg on May 14, 2010 at 6:08pm
You mean their content. :-) We've given them this content to do what they want with.

But making back-ups of the stuff you care about, and sharing email addresses with the people you want to stay in touch with, and so on, are reasonable things to do in this world of technology and networking.

But the point of this wh*** thing is to add good stuff to the world, which is why the WBI has an incentive to keep it going, especially while the news of the winners makes it out to the media.

Yes they have been saying facebook sucks and i totally agree. But there is a group of four people creating an alternative to facebook. It will be up soon too, it's called the Diaspora
http://shareable.net/blog/can-diaspora-take-down-facebook and here's the site: http://www.joindiaspora.com/ it won't be up for like 18 more days.

Glad you like it, ob1. :)

About the Facebook platform. Yes, it does suck, but a very large amount of people are already using it, including several Agents. So it made sense to me to use that platform to create a group where we can stay in touch.

Mind you, Facebook does not have the necessary tools to EVOKE effectively, but it is a good place to stay in touch and give eachother updates on projects and derivative sites.

about platforms... is any of you familiar with http://www.netvibes.com/ ?

Some years ago I've watched Michael Wesch's presentation of how he used this platform to make a group of students collaborate on projects or simply sharing. I loved it, but I never tried using netvibes... maybe somebody among you did and can tell us if it could be a good platform and useful for the porposes mentioned in this blog post. =)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
