A crash course in changing the world.
Turil's Epic Wins! - Thank you to all you EVOKErs for making my life amazing!
I wanted to close out my blog in this game by thanking EVERYONE who participated in this game, and who got something valuable out of it even if they didn't participate. You just being here is making the world a better place. So thanks! You're a hero to me. :-)
And I wanted to leave a bit of my own story summarizing my own personal epic wins during this amazing experience as a final entry - sort of my own gratitude journal for EVOKE. Without EVOKE, I would never have had these experiences, and they all seriously changed my life for the better...
1. In a casual conversation about my Maslow 2.0 theory, Agent Catherine Gentry asked me about the Fibonacci pattern, and reminded me that it related to growth patterns in life. That was so totally the right thing at the right time for her to say, because it sparked my interest in revisiting the pattern to see how it might fit into the theory. And it turned out that it fits stunningly well, and led to me revising the wh*** theory to be far more precise as a tool! This was indeed my biggest epic win! So huge gratitude goes out to Catherine!
2. Wild Food week! Completely inspired by the act part of the economy mission, I spent almost an entire week using the gift economy option for my food needs, specifically focusing on the gifts of the Earth herself. With food the only thing I still use more conventional economy for (I get "food stamp" money) I wanted to try and break free from that last little addiction, at least as a test. And it ended up being an excellent week of learning and exploring and, most importantly, healing as I ate only foods that I'd foraged in my urban area near Boston. And I personally connected with several other wild foods fans and experts during that week, including Agent Scott Douglas Fraser, which was highly rewarding in and of itself. So thanks to whomever came up with that mission, and to those who supported me in my goals!
3. Also during that week, our Pivotal Moment quest assignment was to take a stand for something important during the week, to be exceptionally courageous, and to "create the moment that you will look back on someday and say to yourself, 'this is where it all started.' " And for me, with my most important goal of taking excellent care of my husband and myself (especially because we've both been seriously abandoned and neglected throughout out lives, and have suffered greatly due to it), that assignment gave me the courage to do something I would have otherwise been afraid to do for over a year now, which was to compassionately enter into the wall of "protection" that my husband has surrounded himself with his "friends", and to reach out to him, literally, to let him know I still love him. That may not have been "where it all started" for anything, but it's definitely a new beginning in what had been a painfully long dormant connection in our marriage. So thanks to everyone in the game for being here and giving me a reason to muster up my courage for this most important epic win. :-)
4. Along those same lines, the act mission to create a dark site was tough enough to make me work really hard at finding a way to complete the mission in a way that was meaningful to me. And I shocked myself by coming up with the idea of offering the site to the (nerd bicycle) gang my husband and I have been a part of, and which I'd pushed away from due to several of the members playing major roles in trying to destroy our marriage. I still love many of these people, and believe that they are amazing with their creativity and intelligence and passion for problem solving, and found a way, again, to compassionately reconnect with our leader, Skunk, through this mission, to let him know how much I still care, and want to support the gang in being amazing. So thanks to whomever came up with that mission!
5. And as a more lighthearted epic win, closer to when I started the game, I was delighted to have some collaborators in brainstorming how to use the resources I had to make something I wanted. I had some pieces of hose that I wanted to connect up into a small geodesic dome to use as a garden trellis sort of thing, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out an inexpensive way to connect the things. So I posted about it, and Agents Daniel LaLiberte and Daniel Clarke showed up to help me out! It ended up working out quite well, and the completed dome is now happily living in the community garden I'm helping out with. So thanks bunches to the Daniels!
6. Which leads me to the last epic win of the game, which for me, was seeing Agent Liz McLellan's Hyperlocavore.com project of matching urban land owners with urban gardeners, then signing up on the site, and immediately being connected with a local community science education project that I was fond of that had some garden space that they were happy to offer to the community to garden in! So thanks so much to Liz for her wonderful project!
Of course, there were so many other amazing wins that I experienced during this game, and so many different people I learned from, made friends with, was lovingly challenged by, and was supported by, and so thanks go to all of you who cared enough about the game, me, and the world to contribute your own stories, ideas, feelings, and dreams to EVOKE. You really made a difference in my life!

Turil, thanks for this post. What a great read it is, and how much I admire you. Both for these cool things you've done, and ways you've connected with people, and also for the strength it takes to have done some of them - the reconnections you made to build your dark site, especially. Fourth of July on the Lake
This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
