Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Being high school students, even with such an amount of money, we realize that our powers and resources are limited. We have time and ability constraints. So it took us quite a while to come up with something big enough to make a difference but definitely probable.

In the end, we came up with something we all agreed to work on. Because we have realized that this network has not exactly reached its targeted group, so we thought we could use this money to do exactly that.

We want to sponsor an exchange program between our school and schools in Africa. Kids from Africa will come here and learn about Taiwanese lifestyle. In the meantime, we will also introduce them to evoke, and hopefully when they go back, they will spread the message and this network’s goal will be achieved fully.

And of course, kids from our school will go to Africa. In additional to learning about African lifestyle, we can also see what has been and still needs to be done. We believe this project will benefit both sides greatly and we can gain lots of precious experiences.

This may seems small but it is just the beginning. We hope that our spark will carry out and spread all over. And the change we have all been working for will finally come. We think that our project is definitely possible and worth supporting.

You forgot to say that Taiwan used to be a poor colony of Japan, which became a police state under martial law and eventually made a successful transition to democracy. Today, Taiwan is the only real democracy that has ever existed in the Chinese world and also enjoys a very high standard of living. Every country has corruption to some degree, but how many have a strong enough democracy to put their former president in jail?

When your parents were born, Taiwan's biggest export was pineapples. Then it became the world's largest exporter of umbrellas. When you were born, Taiwan was becoming one of the world's leading hi-tech manufacturing economies and even today most of the world's laptop computers and mobile phones are made in Taiwan. But Taiwan is moving away from manufacturing and becoming a centre in the knowledge economy. The current generation, including you, is highly educated and competitive in the globalised world.

Taiwan would be a great model for people in developing countries to learn from. You have achieved more in one generation than many countries have achieved in a century. It would be very inspirational for students to see what can be achieved with a little capital and a strong work ethic.

This is a great idea for an evokation, and I look forward to meeting whoever you bring to Taiwan.

Do you have any idea how you would choose the lucky students? Maybe your mentor (or the WBI) could help you contact schools in Africa?

Chengyaun High School, I must say that, your project is very, very interesting. There is no better way of learning about other cultures and sharing knowledge than the one you are suggesting.

I am from Uganda, East Africa and I would be more than Happy to connect you with High School Students here.

Please let me know of any developments.

On a separate note I wish to call up on all other African Agents help connect you as well.

Hi,

I'm from Zimbabwe, currently live in South Africa and have family and friends in Botswana and Namibia.

I would be happy to find schools /accomodation etc for an exchange over here.

Rotary have run youth exchanges for years, your local capter should be able to help you with information, advice and possibly funding as well. I suggest you contact them.

Anything else I can do please let me know.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
