A crash course in changing the world.

Just wondering how many people know about TED and their amazing talks? I think it would be a great resource for many people on here to get some great evidence of what is going on! I am not trying to take away from this site, that is not the point. I just want people to expand their minds with some really cool motivational talks. I know I can't watch everything, so if people share those ideas and expand on them in their own ways it would be great.

I really like this community and what is going on, I have already seen some really intelligent posts and some really cool creative pictures. Continue the great work.

TED Talks is a treasure trove of very inspiring material ! Here's a link to the talks listing, regularly updated as they come up online : http://www.ted.com/talks.

May I add that Jane McGonigal recently gave a TED Talk on fixing broken realities through playing games ? ;)
Thanks for the link, total knowledge sharing power +1 lol
I'm a huge fan of TED. I've been to TEDGlobal 2009, I'm going to TEDGlobal 2010, I've seen almost all videos on the website, I often comment and translate those videos, I attended TEDxAmsterdam 2009, I volunteered at TEDxBrussels 2009, I watched TED 2010 with a Live Webstream, I want to go to TEDxRotterdam 2010 and volunteer at TEDxAmsterdam 2010 and TEDxBrussels 2010.

I especially like www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html, www.ted.com/talks/rives_on_4_a_m.html, www.ted.com/talks/tim_brown_on_creativity_and_play.html, www.ted.com/talks/dan_ariely_asks_are_we_in_control_of_our_own_deci... and www.ted.com/talks/dan_gilbert_asks_why_are_we_happy.html. But there are a lot of fantastic ones on there.
Absolutely - TED is amazing - worth a look at regardless of what industry you work in, it's all about great ideas.
TED is indeed very interesting. The talks, as others have noted, are amazing. "Ideas worth spreading"

TED is also a conference. A very expensive conference, where you are required to be a member of TED to become an attendee.

To be at a TED conference is a networking opportunity of another world, if that is your thing. To Speak at TED is also a huge boost to one's career. Given, of course, that it all goes well ;)

Here is a list with an attendee's personal response to the different talks from TED 2010.
I was thinking of something recently, which you guys might find interesting. We meet a lot of people through experiments like EVOKE or Superstruct whose ideas would deserve a TED Talk. So how about using the format of TED for what would be (not)TED talks ?

Definitely.

The TED talks are actually Very good. The format. NO POWERPOINT (sorry for caps). Just human story-telling. Remember the story of the scientist who told the story of how her own brain broke down? Amazing storytelling.

I am thinking first we use video to give presentations. Talks. On topics. But it takes time, and it takes commitment. I will get Awake on this as well as our other planned projects

First week is still not finished. We still have time to create "institutions" which can produce something for all 10 weeks.

@ Raymond yes the talk given by the scientist is a very good example of an amazing TED talk and her story-telling skills is definitely worth commending. Check out Jill Bolte Taylor's Stroke of Insight for those interesting in watching it.
@Thomas, I think you're on to something great with the idea of having agents give a special presentation similar to a TED talk and a good angle to work on would be trying to incorporate these talks on special projects for the first EVOKE summit in DC. Plenty of time to think about giving this idea a shot and work on it.
I must confess this is something I've had in mind since the IFTF's Signtific campaign. Maybe that'd be worth putting somewhere on the wiki, listing the characteristics of a TED Talk and helping people getting started on it :)

I'm a big fan of TED, as you all. Actually I'm totally fixed with it.
It would be nice to share here (if you agree) our favorite talks and speakers.
Anyway, here are mines (hope it could be of some interest, many of them are about sustainability and development issues):

Guys, i'm a big fan of TED and also the other similar conferences/events. After TED2010 live, i had many insights of our world, hope to be more active in the EVOKE from now on.
The best thing I ever learnt was how to use my wifi and my ps3 to stream youtube vids of the TED talks to my tv. I feel very lucky to be living in a time when this is not just available, but possible. I should have known EVOKE peeps would be all over this, there's just so much there to act as catalyst to further thought in your own area of interest coming from a wide range of other disciplines. This is the future I dreamt of - free exchange of ideas.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
