Fair enough.
For some reason I've wanted to review what may be the main points of a
book on goal-free living:
- Use a compass, not a map—have a sense of direction, and then let yourself wander and try new things on the way to fulfilling your
aspirations
- Trust that you are never lost—every seemingly wrong turn is an opportunity to learn and experience new things
- Remember that opportunity knocks often, but sometimes softly—while blindly pursuing our goals, we often miss unexpected and wonderful
possibilities
- Want what you have—measure your life by your own yardstick and appreciate who you are, what you do, and what you have . . . now
- Seek out adventure
- Become a people magnet—constantly seek, build, and nurture relationships with new people so that you always have the support and
camaraderie of others
- Embrace your limits
- Remain detached—focus on the present, act with a commitment to the future, and avoid worrying about how things will turn out
Quite honestly I resist planning that far ahead-- my main goals at the moment are to spend more time walking with others in the wilderness who are focused on personal & community growth. But over time I'm not sure how my focus will change.
The direction I point myself to and hope to be in in 10 years is:
- continued and improved health & joy at being in the body
That seems to be number one. Without health & joy @ being in the body, what is life?
- continued and improved sense that I am doing meaningful work and play--the sense that my time here is contributing to others' lives in some way. . .
- continued sense of adventure, wonder, and amazement--looking back on the week, month, year, decade, I am amazed at what has happened in such a short time. . . At the same time. . . I am a bit skeptical of continually seeking novelty. Some growth may involve being able to make finer distinctions and to appreciate finer details about a situation which previously may have appeared to me stagnant and unchanging.
- continued and improved feelings of love, for life, self, others.
So how's that for a dynamic steering aim for the year 2020?
and as to what that has to do with a food crisis in Tokyo and how I might help with such a thing. . . not really sure.
