A crash course in changing the world.

My hero to shadow: Alex Steffen of worldchanging.org

I follow Alex Steffen on twitter and have been doing so for a while. He's how I found out about this game!

Perhaps I'm choosing too easy of a way to meet this objective by going with a social innovator I already follow---but by addressing this mission objective, I may learn even more--

The reason I follow him is because he has been an effective voice for change in the US.
I believe he was instrumental in getting Seattle city council to begin to seriously consider how to make the city become carbon neutral.

But even before that I followed him because he, like James Howard Kunstler, has a fairly large audience within in the US and he is such a strong, vocal advocate for designing carfree cities, living, and lifestyles.

In the past I have made attempts at social advocacy in this area--such as with the web site carfreeuniverse, as well as by attending various conferences and gatherings and educating and advocating for "transitioning to carfree living and environments". I never considered myself very successful-- I never did anything that would reach a million or more people (or, to be honest, really thought I wanted to reach that many people). So, naturally, I cheer on and respect those who are reaching a million or more in this area.

Lutz Fernandez, co-author of Carjacked! is another who has succeeded in reaching a million (probably) in the area of advocating for carfree living.

So that is the hero I'm shadowing and why. Conceivably I could learn to become a social innovator to some degree of the magnitude that he is eventually. But what is it that makes someone want to reach a large audience vs. just seek to have a good life on their own regardless of what the rest of the world is doing?

Ah! Or maybe it should be, "But what is about wanting to join a large network of those who seek a good life for themselves *and* for others? "

I think we've already seen a first step ;)

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
