Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Call the EVOKE Network to action.  This is your chance to harness the collective and collaborative powers of EVOKE.  Submit a challenge to the Network in this discussion thread, and my team and I might feature it in the Breaking News box.

A good challenge will take only a short time to complete.  Consider these possible challenge themes, or suggest something of your own:

- Collaborative efforts
- Making new connections within the Network
- Forming teams/Working together
- Looking for patterns in the Evidence
- Collective intelligence challenges
- Creative challenges

HOW TO SUBMIT A CHALLENGE:

1 - In this discussion thread, describe your challenge.  Tell us what you’d like to see the EVOKE Network do.

2 - Choose the EVOKE Power or Powers you want to see grow. Tell us how you think the challenge
should be rewarded.

If your challenge is selected to be featured, you will earn +100 Spark.

The Network awaits your call to action.

I propose a challenge to the people interested in dealing with food shortages and possible solutions - the challenge is to plant from seed (or grocery refuse) and grow something edible in the 68 days left until the end of the first season of Evoke.

People should be encouraged to discuss in posts and threads what they will be growing (and why), what container they'll use for holding the growing medium they're using, if they're going to reuse any household waste they have (and the benefits or negatives of doing so) and what they'll use their edible plant for.

They should take photographs (in an album) of their growing location, of the first sprout, of the second growth of leaves, and then of the plant when it gets to some arbitrary heights.

Finally, a grand points prize for the day when they harvest their plant, and actually eat it.

I believe that this will be most appropriate for Resourcefulness, Sustainability, and possibly Local Insight.

I believe a great many people could take part in this, green fingered or otherwise (do we think that people in trouble will be given the luxury of letting their plants die) from busy office workers with a pot of chives, to wh*** classrooms of school children with windowboxes full of chinese cabbages and radishes! I am ready to take the lead on this, if people need encouragement.
Several Evoke challenges:
1. Meme Madness
2. Power of Process
3. Provocative Outcomes

Enjoy!

I have added my Challenge on " Say Yes to Bicycle Riding". Please check the challenge and comment and participate in the campaign.
I think the next challenge EVOKE should have is DO SOMETHING!

In this mission you are encouraged to get out of the house and help, you can do this mission on your own or get together with other members and discuss local probems. And then you need to do something good for the comunity. Answerng some simple questions and if your really enthusastic provide evedance such as a photo or video.

It can be something quick and simple, done on the way to work, school. Here is an example.

What area did you help?
Epsom, England

What was the problem?
Way to much litter!

What did you do about it?
Cleaned up the streets for an hour with my friends.

and then a nice photo of you and your friends cleaning!!

The power points awarded should be local insight or sustainability

Get out there and start helping! :)
Yet another idea - and a better one than my last.
I'm intrigued by the way that culture itself often endorses sustainability - for example, from my own Jewish heritage, I know that I'm supposed to sow seeds in my field. When I do, I must sow a different seed every harvest (crop rotation) for six years, and for the seventh allow the land to lie fallow (to allow the soil to rebind, preventing erosion). This is a good practice in terms of sustainability, and perhaps Agents could research others and post them under HERITAGE1 - this will work on their research skills and their sustainable practices. Agents who take the initiative, and perhaps put one or two of the simpler ones into action (and doc**ent it) could be given Spark or Vision points.
This is particularly an exercise to get people to be (a) more in touch with their own heritage and (b) more in touch with the heritage of those around you. As the great Nelson Mandela said, "Speak to a man in a language he understands, and it will go to his head. Speak to him in his language, and it will go to his heart." I believe the same goes for heritage - how can you truly know someone if you don't know where they came from?
Objective: Raise awareness of the Evoke network. Let the public know that we will stand where others falter.

I feel that this organization needs a confidence building operation that is both attainable and empowering. Therefore, I submit to the network that we collaborate and organize a brief awareness campaign aimed at bringing the Evoke network to the eyes and ears of as many people as possible. The yields of this mission would be threefold, as I see it.

1: Raising awareness will probably bring about an increase in our numbers, thus bringing more minds, talent, and fire to our ranks. I don't think it needs to be stated that additional strength in numbers in turn affects our ability to respond quickly and efficiently to crisis.

2: Confidence in our own abilities. As one of our initial operations, this would be a chance to evaluate our own network's ability to form cells, communicate necessities, doc**ent friction points and not least of all, innovate.

3: This operation would easily set the network up for a follow on operation; In fact, it would be most effective in this fashion. This sort of thing followed directly by a large scale bit of benevolence, innovative or simple in nature, would bring credibility (not that what we're going for is so superficial as a reputation). If people know that the Evoke network is here, and stands ready to address the tough issues, we'll likely find the support that we need to perpetrate future operations.

In essence, what we're looking for is a low cost, high efficiency mass media campaign. Let's figure out the best ways to raise awareness for the network; Not just fliers and cards, mind you. Let's get creative with this.

Remember to post evidence and tag appropriately. Let's call the tag AWARENESS.
I've already posted a challenge to the evokers. It's a pretty time consuming one so I'll be glad if you reward the teams Collaboration, Creativity and Vision evoke powers. I used a team challenge I had to work on during my Management cla**** at the University because I want to see teams forming here.

Directly inspired by Ayala Sherbow from her blog post:
http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/lets-get-real-a-personal

I would challenge agents to do an honest self-a****sment because:
- Self awareness is vital to effective use of our skills and talents.
- It will help agents get to know each other in better detail than our limited profiles allow.
- Forming teams will be made easier with everyone's abilities on the table.
- This sort of post takes little time.
- Lists are fun!

Mostly the growth would be in courage (which seems to be a theme of mine.) Knowing yourself isn't always easy; telling others about yourself honestly is even less so. I think 'Collaboration' could be a part of it too.

(Also, if, by chance, this gets used I think Ayala deserves at least half the 'Spark' credit.)
Hello Alchemy,

I challenge the evoke network to support human rights for all in Nigeria through our online efforts...

Background briefing:
On March 7, 2010 Hundreds Killed by Mobs in Villages in Central Nigeria see this Human Rights Watch report for the details
http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2010/03/08/nigeria-investigate-massacre-...

The challenge is comprised of two parts -

1) Collecting data of what’s happened and posting it to a dedicated discussion category here to educate our fellow agents tag it CommunityJustice1"

2) take action by sending our gathered evidence and condemnation of these acts to world leaders, make sure you say your part of the Evoke network working for positive social innovation and change. Make your posts or letters or phone calls polite and supportive of the human rights of all people in Nigeria. If you receive a reply post it to the blog with the message you sent.

Suggested Rewards for this challenge as follows:

Part one - +10 Knowledge share, collaboration, Local Insight or a novel contribution of data or useful manipulation of data or if you’re in Nigeria - an in country report.

Part 2- +25 Courage

This Challenge will run till April 1, 2010 2359 GMT.

Part two suggested organizations to contact :

Start with your respective country politician's & representatives- congressman& women, senators, Representatives, and Presidents/ leaders of the country you reside in...

then...

Consulate General of Nigeria (UN representative)
http://www.nigeriahouse.com

The World Bank
http://web.worldbank.org/WBSITE/EXTERNAL/EXTABOUTUS/0,,contentMDK:2...

The IMF - International Monetary fund
I suggest the Civil Society Team
http://www.imf.org/external/np/exr/contacts/contacts.aspx

The UN-
(I cant find the Secretary Generals email so i open it to crowd-sourcing- can anyone find a way to email the secretary generals office?)

I have his spokespersons Snail mail and telephone numbers through...

Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Martin Nesirky
United Nations, S-378
New York, NY 10017
Tel. 212-963-7162
Fax. 212-963-7055

- here are the offices of the Human Rights watch worldwide - let them know they don’t stand alone….

A simple reason of why people do not continue with world-changing plans, is lack of courage or confidence. I would like to see Courage being a theme. An idea for a mission would be to think of a way (big or small) to help other people, whether it be global or community based. From there, they should create a way of promoting their idea, whether it be facebook, twitter, blogs, newspaper submissions, etc. To earn courage power, they must attempt their idea.
In case that never made sense:
1) Submit world-changing idea as a blog/picture/video: Explain what it is, what it will help, and how they will do it.
2)Go out and promote idea to the world
3)Feel good that you had the courage to speak out and promote a world-changing idea (and earn powers)

This kind of mission would require people to have courage in themselves, and strengthen those skills.
i think a challenge should be at 16:00 there should be a discussion forum about one question, for example how can we get everyone involved in sustainable living and for one hour we all put our thoughts and ideas on it for one hour only once the timer has stopped everyone can read through all the thoughts then write a summary on what they thought was the best views and how we can apply them in our country and in other countries as well. this should add 20 points to knowledge share on everyone who participated and summarised
Here is my challenge:
I think a new challenge should be for us to visit some Eco Village near us and show how much we care about the environment, take pictures and talk to people there, then afterwards when we get home make a blog post about it and post those photos,
I do realize that this does not take so short time like other challenges would but think about it, it really would help raise the awareness don't you think?
I think this challenge should grow the Sustainability and/or Spark EVOKE powers:)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
