I follow hundreds of social entrepreneurs online, and know many in person. They are my colleagues; many are friends. I am also a social entrepreneur myself, but... I really don't want to be anyone's hero. Most of my social entrepreneur friends don't want to be heroes either.
Social Entrepreneurs are not heroes, but simply people who have chosen an alternative way of experiencing life. We are not driven by achieving money or glory or fame, but by the potential good we see that we can co-create in the world with others. We do not work happily alone, but relish opportunities to collaborate with others in making big things happen. We do not seek to lead, but to empower others to act in the world's best interest.
Social entrepreneurs are mothers and fathers, like you. We are hard workers, like you. We are people who want our children to grow up with right values, and who want to live in a just society. We are just as normal, and just as amazing as every other person on the planet. We give alot of ourselves. We expect a lot from others. We are changemakers because we choose to be, just like you can be too.
The thing I love most about social entrepreneurs these days is that we are becoming so many.My sincere hope is that making an impact in the world becomes commonplace enough that people will no longer see social entrepreneurs as heroes. What a great world it could be if making a positive impact in the world were just normal.
