Social Entrepreneurs :: un-heroes in the making

I follow hundreds of social entrepreneurs online, and know many in person. They are my colleagues; many are friends. I am also a social entrepreneur myself, but... I really don't want to be anyone's hero. Most of my social entrepreneur friends don't want to be heroes either.

Social Entrepreneurs are not heroes, but simply people who have chosen an alternative way of experiencing life. We are not driven by achieving money or glory or fame, but by the potential good we see that we can co-create in the world with others. We do not work happily alone, but relish opportunities to collaborate with others in making big things happen. We do not seek to lead, but to empower others to act in the world's best interest.

Social entrepreneurs are mothers and fathers, like you. We are hard workers, like you. We are people who want our children to grow up with right values, and who want to live in a just society. We are just as normal, and just as amazing as every other person on the planet. We give alot of ourselves. We expect a lot from others. We are changemakers because we choose to be, just like you can be too.

The thing I love most about social entrepreneurs these days is that we are becoming so many.My sincere hope is that making an impact in the world becomes commonplace enough that people will no longer see social entrepreneurs as heroes. What a great world it could be if making a positive impact in the world were just normal.

Indeed, doing the right thing should be common practice and not a rare event. In the end, we shouldn't need heroes, as we're all working together for a better future. However, at this time, we need examples, role models, yes: heroes to show us the way.

I have one person who looks up to me. I was surprised when I first heard this and it's a nice ego-stroke, but having someone who looks up to you, does put yourself in a position where you need to be responsible. If people look up to you, then you must make sure you set the right example.

This is what the heroes/role models/... of today should understand. Like all those actors in Hollywood: rather than sex, drugs and whatever music is popular today, set the right example.

I think it was Ghandi who said: "be the change you wish to see in the world". I agree.

+1 vision for imagining a world where social entrepreneurs are the norm. Thanks, Christina, for reminding us that what we really need is not a few heroes, but a world full of normally heroic people.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
