Have you thought recently how good you have it?
Bad hair day? Slow internet connection today?
The other day I went to my fridge and sighed. Leftovers, again. I went over to my computer and jumped on Google. I ran into this picture up here on the Left. I looked at my sandwich and could not beleive how selfish I was. I decided to create a list of things that came to my mind that I over look everyday, that I should be thankful for. Some of these things are easily affordable and could be purchased for the less fortunate.
1) Bed
2) Running, Clean Water
3) Roof
4) Walls
5) Comb, shaving cream, etc.
6) Chairs and a table
7) Couch
8) Soap
9) Pencil and paper to draw and write
10) Food
11) Car
12) Bathroom, with privacy
13) Clean clothes
14) Carpet
15) Sink
16) Internet and computer
17) TV with cable
18) Healthy friends
19) No illness or sickness
20) I have two legs and two arms, all fingers and toes attached.
21) I have to wake up to an alarm clock, not gunfire.
22) A full time job, that I enjoy
23) A hot shower
24) Shoes and socks (more than one pair)
25) Electricity
The list was not even hard to come up with. Took no time at all.
Please add additional things in the comment section and ideas of how we could collect things to send to those without.

*Applauds* Bravo! I wish more and more people felt the same way you do.
I forsee that I will be known as the "Story girl" cause I seem to have a story for everything....I suppose that is something that happens with a lot of life expierence....but I ramble....
For example: When the quake in Haiti hit, I was on Facebook several times making pleas to people to find even little ways to help out. About a week or so after the quake, I noticed people were starting to get fatigued about the issue, something that happens a lot in America when the media just harps on a subject constantly....but the comments I saw from people were just shocking and embarassing. "If I see one more commercial for Helping Haiti I am going to start my own telethon, its the 'help me pay my mortage fund'.
I became incensed over it, and attempted to give people a change in perspective, by writing and showing them how much better they had it than the Haitians....and I ended up losing friends over the issue.
I just wish that more people thought the same as we did, the world could be such a better place....as John Lennon said "Imagine all the people, sharing all the world."

Thanks for sharing that. Sometimes you find out who your real friends are over things like that. I know someone exactly like that. I could not imagine what they would do if "the rug was pulled out from under them." For me, I don't think high and mighty of myself, and brag about everything I own. Because it can all be taken away in a second, and what do you have left after that, friends and family? And that's if you didn't ruin all the relationships along the way to get where you are at.

Above all else, I am thankful for access to other people's ideas, so that no matter what my problem, I can look to the wealth of intelligence collected in books, the internet, and individual minds, to better understand what my options are and what approaches might work best for me.
I suppose a shorter version of this all-encompassing one item list of things I'm thankful for every day might be:

Also, just to be a bit of a philosophical instigator (I love to encourage people to go past their assumptions), I would very much prefer to life in the community on the left than the one on the right. In fact, I dream of living in a place like that!

I never forget how lucky I am because I've slept in a room with a dirt floor and gathered food from the jungle with Megah who laughed as she stoked the fire for lunch when I didn't know what to pick from what looked like a bunch of weeds. To me, the key is we need to experience being there in their world, the world of the have-nots who live with less to really get how fortunate we are. We should bring the goods to them, not send them.

Fourth of July on the Lake

The meal
It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. public servants
