Well, I found someone to shadow, except she wouldn't like it if I referred to her as a hero. Kjerstin Erickson runs FORGE, a company that works with refugees across Africa to come up with collaborative solutions to lay the foundations for successful future communities in places currently torn apart alternately by war and poverty. The main reason I chose Kjerstin to follow was a blog post she had written on Social Edge. She was discussing the problem with the term "social entrepreneur". Her argument was that people who work for social change do not have to be heroes, or individually outstanding people, but that we should all use our skills to work together. I know I've said it before, but I am fairly unconvinced by my ability to change the world on my own - I'm just not that qualified, but I do believe that with a bit of help I can do something. I left a comment on the post and will post if I get a reply, otherwise I'll just write in with any updates on the company or anything else that seems important.
