A crash course in changing the world.

Don’t fight culture (If people cook by stirring their stews, they’re
not going to use a solar oven, no matter what you do to market it. Make
them a better stove instead.)

This makes me think of the big bottled water craze. Personally I am against bottled water. Not only is it pointless and really not at all different from regular tap water, ok well except maybe the taste, yum...the taste of plastic leeching into your water...but anyways I digress. It is also wasteful in every single aspect. We are wasting water, plastic, and vital resources. Twice as much water is used to produce the plastic used for the water bottles than the volume of water that is sold in them. 2.5 million tonnes of plastic is used to bottle water each year. in 2005 Canadians consumed about two billion liters of bottled water. That's about 60 liters' per person. in 2007 more than 17 million barrels of oil were used to produce the plastic for the bottles in the USA. That is the equivalent to fueling more than one million cars for a year. I don't know about you, but to all of this just sounds absolutely absurd. Why do we waste so much on something we can get from a tap? Some of us are lucky enough to live in a culture and a place where we have easy access to clean drinking water almost everywhere. So why are we spending so much of our money and resources on bottling it? People claim it has a better taste, they claim this even after experiments have been done proving that people can not tell the difference between garden hose water and bottled water. Even if there is a difference in taste, is that really something worth sacrificing precious resources for? Going back to the tip from "innovation in Africa tips", I understand that it is hard to change peoples minds on something like this, and that in western society bottled water is a part of the culture. So why not try convincing schools or workplaces to change bottled water vending machines to free water areas. Areas where you can refill your reusable water bottle or even purchase a reusable water bottle. This might be a stretch expecting it to happen, but at the very least you can make a difference. You can pledge to not partake in this ridiculous act. Carry a reusable water bottle with you, don't buy bottled water, tell your friends and acquaintances about why they shouldn't buy bottled water, do whatever you can to spread the word at the very least. The U.N estimates that it would cost about 30$ billion to provide everyone in the world with drinking water. That seems like a lot of money to all of us I'm sure, but last year, 100$ was spent on bottled water worldwide. That is more than enough to supply the world with clean drinking water three times. So why do we spend this money on bottled water instead? Why are we letting corporations take advantage of us this way, taking our money for water. Water! Next society is going to be obsessed with buying bottled air. Take a stand, stop buying bottled water and spread the word.

yes! bottled water is one aspect of society that both needs to change and that we could change relatively easily with a boycott. in general, we just need to reduce our use of water.

don't forget that there are other factors that also affect access to water, such as profiteering on selling water and water projects to developing nations.

yes, that is very true. I'm trying to convince all my friends to boycott bottled water. and yes, it is very true, I once saw a presentation on bottled water, and I can't remember many of the details but I recall a story they told us of a third world nation that was deeply affected by the bottled water companies that bought out the municipal water supply and they were torn between ridiculous prices and dirty river water. It is just sad that things like this are allowed to happen.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
