A crash course in changing the world.
This is a dibble - a pointy stick used for poking seed h***s into the ground. I made it from a chopstick and colored in 12 sections, one for each of the months of the year, to indicate the first and last frost dates typical for this region. The sections in black, starting at the beginning of the year, are black (since that's what your cold-sensitive crops will be if you plant them during these months). The sections in green are the months that are normally frost-free. Note that for our region, that starts and ends at half-months (mid-April and mid-October). This knowledge is vital for anyone growing their own food, and varies from one region to another and even within microclimates of that region, and is something you can't know without access to archived weather data or local knowledge.
This tool requires no technology or language/literacy to read. As long as you are operating on a January-start calendar (or can figure it out), you can use this tool to help ensure your food security both as a calendar and as a planting aid.
